Bridges to be Replaced on Bruzgul Road in Union Vale
Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work on bridges U-27 and U-28 on Bruzgul Road (CR-21) in the Town of Union Vale is expected to begin next week. The bridges, located over the Fishkill Creek on Bruzgul Road (CR 21) near the intersection with Clove Valley Road (CR 9), will be replaced due to structural deterioration to ensure the safety of motorists.

These bridge projects on Bruzgul Road will ensure the long-term safety and viability of this roadway. Our highway and bridge projects are a critical part of our capital project investments, as well-maintained roads and bridges enhance the quality of life for our residents and help support our local economy.”
Project work will involve demolition of the current bridges and building new, wider bridges and widening the road in between to accommodate the addition of shoulders and improve the safety of the roadway. Bruzgul Road will be closed starting on or about Monday, May 20th, approximately three-tenths of a mile west of the Clove Valley Road intersection, with a posted detour directing traffic along Shaughnessy Road and Clove Valley Road. Work is expected to be complete, with the new bridges open and both lanes of traffic flowing by December 2019, and final site restoration will be completed in spring 2020.
Total project cost is estimated at $2.5 million, which includes construction and inspection services. Bruzgul Road averages approximately 1,872 vehicles per day.
Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers in the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
