NEWBURGH MAN ARRESTED FOR DRIVING WITHOUT COURT ORDERED

IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICE

Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. reports the arrest of a Newburgh man for driving with a suspended license and driving without a court-ordered ignition interlock device. On April 4, 2019, at approximately 7:08 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Anthony Tolve observed a traffic violation on State Route 9, in the Town of Philipstown. Deputy Tolve initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle. A check of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicle computer system revealed that the vehicle’s driver, Corey Prentice, age 35, of Newburgh, had a suspended New York State Driver’s License, for previous DWI charges. The computer check also revealed that it was court ordered that Mr. Prentice only operate a vehicle with an installed Ignition Interlock Device. The vehicle that Mr. Prentice was operating, at the time of the traffic stop, did not have such a device installed. Mr. Prentice was placed under arrest for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree (Misdemeanor), and Circumvention of an Interlock Device (Misdemeanor). Mr. Prentice was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Philipstown Justice Court.
