UPDATE: State Police arrest Mount Hope man in fatal hit and run in Otisville, NY

UPDATE:On April 16, 2019 members of SP Middletown located and interviewed STEVEN GRUNDEL, age 38, regarding the hit and run fatal pedestrian collision on ST-211 in the Village of Otisville on March, 20, 2019. Grundel was identified as a possible suspect after a tip was phoned in on Thursday, April 6, 2019. He owns and operates a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck color blue, similar to a vehicle described by a witness near the accident scene. Grundel was first interviewed on April 11, 20 where he provided an alibi that did not fit with information we had developed from other interviews and video surveillance. He was picked up at his place of employment in Port Jervis today. He returned voluntarily to SP Middletown where he was interviewed. He ultimately confessed to being involved in the accident. Follow-up leads will include search warrants executed on his vehicle, currently with the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU), his home and his cell phone. Additional interviews will also take place now that more information was learned during his interview. He is currently being processed and will be arraigned in the Town of Mount Hope Court.

On Sunday, March 31, 2019, at approximately 7:00 AM, Kiera L. Babcock, age 34, from Otisville, N.Y. was found deceased on the side of the road after being struck by a motor vehicle late Saturday night. The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact SP Middletown at 845-344-5300.
