Sherman House Numbering Eagle Scout Project

Sherman House Numbering Eagle Scout Project

When someone calls 911, one of the most crucial pieces of information is the location of the emergency. Having your house number displayed properly can save valuable time in an emergency.

The purpose of this Eagle Scout project is to make it easier to find the locations of emergencies for First Responders (fire, EMS, and police). This project will accomplish this by increasing awareness and compliance with the Sherman House Numbering Ordinance (link below).

Some steps you can take to make it easier for your home to be easily found are:

  • Ensure your numbers are at least 4 inches tall and reflective
  • Ensure that your numbers are visible from at at least 15 ft in day and at night
  • Have your numbers on the same side of the street as your driveway and ensure it isn’t more than 10 feet from your driveway
  • Ensure that your numbers are visible when approaching from the left, the right, and straight on

If you have any question about the ordinance requirements or need assistance installing numbers, please contact me at the email given below.

I have 4 inch reflective numbers that I can offer to Sherman residents at a significant discount ($1 per number). You have your choice of blue or white. If you would like to purchase these numbers, please email me at (Patrick Dwyer) shermanhousenumbers@gmail.com.

Part of this project is documenting the number of homes who come into compliance with the ordinance. If you put numbers up, please let me know via email!
