Family Raises Reward to $50K in Search for Driver in Fatal Poulsbo Hit-and-Run

POULSBO, Wash. — The family of 35-year-old Robert Rathvon is intensifying their plea for justice nearly two years after his life was cut short in a deadly hit-and-run.

Rathvon was walking on the ramp from State Route 3 to NW Finn Hill Road in Poulsbo during the early hours of December 9, 2023, when he was struck and killed. Investigators believe the incident occurred around 1 a.m., but his body was not found until about 8 a.m. that morning.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) continues to search for the driver and vehicle involved. However, no confirmed details about the car’s make, model, or the extent of its damage have emerged.

Ongoing Investigation and Challenges

Despite receiving tips over the past year, authorities say the leads have only provided limited information.

“Any tip, even a small one, could be the missing piece that helps bring justice,” WSP said in a statement.

Investigators continue to urge anyone with knowledge — no matter how insignificant it might seem — to come forward. Even information about suspicious vehicle repairs or unusual damage reported in the days following the crash could help identify the suspect.

Reward Increased to $50,000

In an effort to generate new leads, Rathvon’s family has increased the reward to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and formal charges.

Originally, the family and Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound offered $26,000. The new amount represents both the family’s deepening frustration and their determination to see justice served.

Remembering Robert Rathvon

Family members describe Rathvon as a devoted son, friend, and professional pilot whose life was filled with adventure, kindness, and generosity. His sudden loss has left a lasting void in the Poulsbo community.

“We can’t move forward without answers,” one family member shared. “Someone out there knows what happened, and we’re begging them to come forward.”

How to Submit Tips

Anyone with information can submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or using their P3 Tips app. Callers remain eligible for the reward even if they choose to remain anonymous.

Authorities emphasize that even small observations matter, and the increased reward aims to motivate witnesses or those with knowledge to speak up after nearly two years of silence.

With the case still unsolved, Rathvon’s family hopes that the added incentive — and renewed public attention — will finally lead investigators to the driver who fled the scene.

“We’re not giving up,” the family said. “Robert deserves justice.”
