Mill Lane Bridge in Pleasant Valley Closed
to ALL Traffic – Effective Immediately
Poughkeepsie…The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced the Mill Lane Bridge (PV-17) in the Town of Pleasant Valley has been closed to ALL traffic following notification received today after a New York State DOT inspection. The inspection found severe deterioration of the bridge’s steel girders and a Red Flag, requiring Prompt Interim Action (PIA), was issued.
The bridge is located at the southern end of Mill Lane, at the intersection of Mill Lane with Parksville Road and Drake Road. The average daily vehicle traffic count for the bridge is approximately 140 vehicles per day. Motorists will be directed around the closed bridge, via Route 44, Traver Road, and Parksville Road.
The bridge has been open under a vehicle weight restriction that limited the allowable load to a maximum of 18 tons and a lane restriction was in place. Since the lane restriction was implemented last year, DPW has been working a design plan for the bridge and the $1.175 million replacement project is part of the 2019 Bridge and Highway funding request that is scheduled to be presented at the Dutchess County Legislature’s April board meeting. With the Legislature’s approval of the funding request, DPW will complete design plans, as well as secure necessary land and environmental permits to be able to solicit for bids this fall, with construction anticipated to be completed in 2020.
