Connell Joseph “Connie” Furey

Connell (Connie) J. Furey, 83, of Brewster, NY (formerly of Stuart, FL and Pawling, NY) passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 25, 2019 after a courageous, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Lettertrain, Co. Donegal Ireland on June 2, 1935, Connie immigrated to the United States in 1960. He worked as an installer with the New York Telephone Company for 35 years and was a member of the Communication Workers of America. He is a past Communicant and Usher at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pawling, NY and former member of the Pawling Knights of Columbus Council #545.

He enjoyed being outdoors whether it be on his bicycle or working in the garden. Always proud of his Irish heritage he loved ceili/set dancing and listening to Irish music. He was an avid fan of the Donegal football team and on occasion known to root for Tyrone! He was an active member of the Emerald Association of Putnam County and honored as Emerald of the Year in 2008 along with his wife Rosaleen.

After retiring in 1994 Connie enjoyed the sunshine of Florida and playing golf whenever he got the chance. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Connie was predeceased by his parents Neil and Sarah Furey (nee McGroary) as well as his brothers Neil and Dinnie and sister Bella.

Connie leaves behind his loving wife Rosaleen (nee Casey) of 56 years and his two children, Nuala Donnelly and husband Michael, son Conall and his wife Kim. His adored grandchildren were the light of his life and are blessed to have memories to cherish forever: Casey Donnelly, Michael Donnelly, Brianna Bates and husband Zack.

Connie also leaves behind his brother Patrick of Clonmel, Co Tipperary Ireland; Sisters Margaret Walsh of Killyleagh, Co. Down Ireland; Mary Lally of Chicago, Il; Norah Kienzle of Northumberland, PA; Cis Dunnion of Coventry, England; Rose Harvey, Kathleen Harvey and Angela Quinn all of Mount Charles, Co. Donegal Ireland. He will be forever missed by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Horn & Thomes Funeral Home 83 East Main Street Pawling, NY from 2 pm – 4 pm and 7 pm – 9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church 39 East Main St. Pawling, NY. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Pawling, NY.
