Recovering Community Equity: What Can a Land Bank do for Poughkeepsie?

NOTICE OF TOWN HALL MEETING:

Recovering Community Equity: What Can a Land Bank do for Poughkeepsie?

Join members of the City of Poughkeepsie Common Council, the City of Poughkeepsie Mayor’s Office, Dutchess
County officials, housing organizations, community activists, and others for a community conversation about how a
land bank could benefit the City of Poughkeepsie and to learn about different land bank structures.

In 2011, New York State passed the “Land Bank Act” allowing the creation of land banks to be used by communities
to facilitate the return of vacant, abandoned, and tax-delinquent properties to productive use.

Since that time, 25 land banks have been created around the state. The state recently raised the cap on land banks
to 35, opening 10 new slots for which municipalities and counties can now apply.

The event will take place on Monday, March, 25 at City Hall, 3rd Floor, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, NY
12601 and will run from 6:00- 8:00 p.m.

Featured Guest Panelist Include;

Tarik Abdelazim, Associate Director of National Technical Assistance, Center for Community Progress
Allison G. Cappella, Executive Director, Newburgh Community Land Bank
Christa Hines, Executive Director, Hudson River Housing
Joshua Simons, Senior Research Associate, Benjamin Center, SUNY New Paltz
Katelyn Wright, Executive Director, Greater Syracuse Land Bank
Members of the public will be invited to speak and share their perspectives on land banking in the city.

Light refreshments will be provided.
