Pair arrested for possessing heroin and stolen jewelry following a traffic stop on the Thruway

Kristin L. Otto    Michael L. Leone

Cornwall, NY – On March 10, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 in the town of Cornwall for a vehicle and traffic violation.  During the interview of the occupants, probable cause to search the vehicle was established.  The driver, Kristin L. Otto, 30, of Walkill, NY, and passenger, Michael L. Leone, 30, of Monroe, NY were found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle cap containing cotton balls which tested positive for heroin.  Additionally, Leone was found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle and approximately 9.3 grams of women’s jewelry.  Further investigation revealed the jewelry was stolen.  Both Otto and Leone were taken into custody and transported to SP Newburgh where they were charged with the following:

Kristin L. Otto:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Vehicle and Traffic Violations

Michael L. Leone:

  • Grand Larceny 4th degree; a Class E Felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Needle; a Class A Misdemeanor

Otto was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Cornwall Court on April 10, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.  Leone was arraigned before the Town of Cornwall Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $5,000 bond.  No return court date for Leone is available at this time.
