Obituary for Brandt E. “Pap” Hoag

Brandt E. “Pap” Hoag, 78, of New Freeport, PA, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 at home with his family by his side. Born June 29, 1940 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late E. Dudley and Gladys (Leonard) Hoag.

Brandt was a mechanic for Mountain Energy for 30 years until his retirement in 2013. A resident of New Freeport, PA for more than 40 years, he was a lifelong volunteer of the New Freeport Fire Department where he served as the assistant chief and volunteer firefighter until January 2019 when his health declined. Before moving to New Freeport, he was also a forest firefighter and volunteer firefighter when he resided in Dover Plains.

He was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Waynesburg, PA and attended the Church of Christ in Hundred, WV and New Freeport, PA.

Brandt was known for his hard work and would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed helping his son. and watching and playing with his grandkids and great grandkids.

He is survived by four children, Thomas (Shannon) Hoag of New Freeport, PA, Melissa Hoag of New Freeport, PA, Heather (Billy) Dulaney of New Freeport, PA and Kimberly (Paul) Bennett of Junction City, KS; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two brothers, Robert Hoag of Reidsville, NC and Larry (Gail) Hoag of Dover Plains, NY.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three grandchildren, Christopher Hoag, Tiffany Eckles and Paul McDonnell III.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, PA. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Gilbert Ceniceros officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Center Turnpike, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Freeport Fire Department, 11 Main St., New Freeport, PA 15352.
