Rep. Antonio Delgado Statement on House Passing Resolution to Block National Emergency Declaration

Delgado cosponsors the bipartisan resolution that passed the House today

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) joined Democratic and Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives in voting for a resolution he cosponsors that would block President Trump’s emergency declaration to pay for a border wall that Congress did not appropriate funding for. Following the vote, Delgado issued the following statement:

“The power of appropriations lies exclusively in the hands of Congress. The President’s decision to do an end run around Congress and declare a national emergency is deeply alarming and violates the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution. Members of the House of Representatives on both sides of the aisle did the right thing by blocking the declaration—I hope that Senators will stand up for the rule of law and follow our lead.”
