The 11th annual Millbrook Literary Festival will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019

The 11th annual Millbrook Literary Festival will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Millbrook Library. Many special events are being planned for this year’s Festival, including interviews with best-selling memoirist Dani Shapiro and James Patterson collaborator Maxine Paetro, along with seminars on the publishing industry. There will also be a full children’s program including a musical adaptation of a Beatrix Potter book, and discussions with picture book authors.

Along with scheduling a series of engaging talks with authors for all ages, the Festival also sponsors two writing contests. The annual Scott Meyer Award is open to all Hudson/Harlem Valley writers aged 18 or over. This year the Festival will award a grand prize of $300 for an unpublished text-only children’s book manuscript and two runners-up will each receive $150. The winning book will be selected from among finalists by an industry notable.

The Festival’s annual Young Writers Showcase will be for a short story. Children aged 8 to 18 can submit an original short story of 250 words or less to this year’s competition. Finalists will be included in the Young Writers Showcase 2019 publication, and three gift cards to Merritt Bookstore will be awarded in two age groups; 8 to 12 and 13 to 18.

The deadline for all entries for both contests is April 15, 2019. Finalists will be notified by May 1, 2019, and the first place winner of both the Scott Meyer Award and the Young Writers Showcase will be announced at the Festival. The winner and runners-up for each contest must be present at the Millbrook Literary Festival on May 19, 2018, to receive their prizes.

See the Millbrook Literary Festival website at https://millbrookliteraryfestival.org/ for further information on entry requirements for both contests and for updates on the 2018 line-up of Festival events.
