Jane Valente Harte passed away peacefully, January 9, 2019, at her home in Wilton, Connecticut at the age of 96.
Jane Harte was born on February 12, 1922, to Bartholomew (Tom) Valente and Frances Randazzo Valente in Pawling, NY. Her husband of 46 years, Arthur Harte, predeceased her in 2002.
Jane attended Pawling Schools and after graduating with a teaching degree from New Paltz she taught at Pawling Elementary. After a short tenure at CBS in NYC, Jane returned to teaching in Chappaqua, NY where she met her husband Arthur. After marrying in 1956 they moved to Pound Ridge, NY where she taught elementary school at Meadow Pond in the Lewisboro School system. After retiring in 1986 she moved back to Pawling and lived there till 2011. Passionate about Pawling, Jane and Arthur became very active in town affairs, working on the Master Plan for the Village, various clubs, and the Pawling School system where the middle school library was dedicated in their honor.
She is survived by her two sons, Jesse (Tracy) Harte of Westport, CT and David (Nancy) Harte of New Canaan, CT, and her grandchildren and step-grandchildren Erica, Elise, Eva, Christopher, and Alexandra Harte, and Trevor and Cooper Shippee.
Family and friends may pay their respects Monday, January 14th from 9-10:30 AM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling.
A funeral service will be held in Pawling at Christ Church on Quaker Hill Monday at 11 AM. Burial to follow in Pawling Cemetery.
