Helen R. Shook, 85, a resident of Poughquag, NY since 1962, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY.
Born in New York City on November 26, 1933, she was one of three daughters born to George and Helen (Shand) Thomson. Helen was a graduate of the Vassar Bros. Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1953. She went on to work as a nurse for Vassar College, retiring in 1993.
Helen enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and was an avid NY Yankees fan. She was a past member of the Beekman Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Sylvan Lake Grange.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Tanner of Poughquag, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Missy.
She is predeceased by her husband, Russell, who passed away in 2008 and her sister, Isobel Harris, who passed away in 2009.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY from 10 – 11:30 AM, with a funeral service at 11:30. Burial will follow in the Beekman Cemetery, Poughquag, NY
