STANFORDVILLE – Elizabeth A. Hickey, 62 of Durham, NC and formerly of Stanfordville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Born in the Bronx, NY on February 10, 1956, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Nancy Foley Hickey.
She was a graduate of Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains, NY, Class of 1974 and was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
She was employed as a Registered Nurse at St Francis Hospital for 2 years, before moving to Durham NC to begin a long stellar career at Duke University Hospital. Elizabeth, or Liza as she was called, loved to travel, create craft /needlepoint gifts, and lovingly support anyone in need. Kind and giving, she was loved by an entire community of family and friends, and the world will not be the same without her.
Lisa is survived by her brothers and sisters; Eileen (Alton) Bloxom, John P (Debbie) Hickey, Ann (Wayne) Brooker and Thomas (Tammy) Hickey; her nieces and nephews; Erin (Tom) Kelley, Troy Hickey, Courtney Hickey and Joe Hickey; her uncles Cecil and Noel Hickey; her aunt Rita Longo; numerous cousins in the US and Ireland and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15 from 9 – 10:30 am at 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am from St. Joseph’s Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bangall, NY. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Elizabeth Hickey to Duke Cancer Center, 4019 North Roxbury St., Durham, NC 27704. A memorial service will be held in Durham, NC at a later date.
