Two juveniles arrested for arson in Chatham

Chatham, New York – On December 8, 2018, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested two twelve-year-old subjects for Arson in the 4th degree, a class E felony, and Arson in the 5th degree, a class A misdemeanor.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., on December 7, 2018, Columbia County 911 dispatched Chatham Fire Department and Chatham Police to a report of a brush fire at the Columbia County Fairgrounds.  Fire personnel located, and extinguished a small fire near a building.  At approximately 7:15 p.m., Chatham Fire Department was dispatched to a separate brush fire at the Rite Aid Pharmacy located in the village of Chatham.  Chatham Police requested assistance from the New York State Police and Bureau of Criminal Investigation from Livingston.  Further investigation revealed that two juveniles were responsible for setting several fires in the village that evening.

Both juveniles were issued Family Court Appearance tickets for Arson in the 4th and 5thdegrees.
