Cortlandt, New York – On December 4, 2018, the New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested Marcelo A. Abila, age 41, of Croton-On-Hudson, NY, for Criminal Impersonation of a Police Officer in the 1st degree, and attempted Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, both class E felonies.

The State Police were called to the Woodybrook area of Cortland for a report of a man claiming to be a police officer demanding money.  Investigation revealed Abila, wearing a “NYPD” baseball style cap, knocked on the victim’s door, and claimed to be a Croton Police Officer.  Abila then demanded money from the victim, who refused and notified the State Police.

Abila was arraigned before the town of Cortlandt Court, and was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  Abila is next scheduled to appear before the town of Cortlandt Court on December 6, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
