The Holidays Bring Out the Giving in People!

By Susan Stone

“A plethora of donations” have been pouring into the Pawling Resource Center this Season of Giving, according to PRC Director, Terry Ariano.  The generosity of the Pawling Community may be seen in the bags and bags of food, toiletries, paper goods, winter coats, hand knitted scarves and mittens, and other items daily appearing at the center.  Local Hannaford shoppers purchased 237 holiday food boxes that the store then passed along to the Center. Additionally, Catholic Charities Food Drive once again designated the PRC as a recipient of its Thanksgiving food drive, donating 673 items of dry and canned goods to the PRC food pantry.

Numerous local scout troops, school groups and businesses get involved with the holiday giving spirit. Pawling homeschoolers have been busy making holiday baskets for community seniors and then bringing them to the PRC for distribution.  Sixty-three families have been adopted (so far) for the PRC’s Adopt-A-Family Program.  These adoptions will provide community children with gifts of clothing, and something just for fun, to open this Christmas.

“Our community is so very generous, and people really give a lot of thought to how they can best help their neighbors in need enjoy a meaningful, healthy and happy holiday season,” reported Ms. Ariano.

Donations will be accepted throughout the holiday season and beyond.  Questions about how you can help will be answered by the PRC staff and volunteers.  Please call 845-855-3459.
