Obituary, Richard ‘Dick’ Hoag

Rhinebeck – Richard ‘Dick’ Hoag, of Rhinebeck NY, passed away peacefully at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Born on April 21, 1949, to Lois Hoag of Welaka FL and the late Murray Hoag of Rhinebeck NY, he was the third of five strong spirited children.

Richard attended the Dover central schools and went on to join the local carpenters union number 279. A skilled carpenter, mechanic and avid builder Richard built his own home and many others until his retirement. His love for antique cars and the virtues of a well-stocked garage kept him happy and well for many years. Richard had many friends and was known for being among the first to volunteer for the recklessly dangerous tasks, the impossible missions and to help others out of life’s ill-timed jams. His generous nature spared no one.

Richard is predeceased by his devoted wife Patricia Hoag deceased in 2007. He is survived by his four children Victoria L. Nguyen of Wingdale NY, Richard M. Hoag of Dover NY, Jarvis A. Hoag of Rhinebeck NY and Robert D. Robinson of Euclid Ohio. He is also survived by his siblings Darlene Masseo of Hawthorne FL, Susan Showalter of Welaka FL, Judith Baker of Wingdale NY and Jerry Hoag of Welaka FL. Also, surviving are Richard’s favorite people, his ten grandchildren, Stephanie Nguyen, Maia Nguyen, Rebecca Nguyen, Zachary Nguyen, Noah Clancy, Seth Hoag, Riley Robinson, Tyler Robinson, Camilla Robinson, and Peyton Robinson.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at  51 W Market ST., Rhinebeck NY. Calling hours will be from 3-5 pm with funeral services at 5 pm. Family and close friends are welcome to attend an informal gathering at Richard’s home at 6:30 pm. In Lieu of flowers please come with a good story or memory about Dick to share.
