RECENT PUTNAM INTOXICATED DRIVER ARRESTS RECORDED

Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. reports recent intoxicated driver arrests recorded by members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

On November 14, 2018, at approximately 5:47 pm, Sergeant Timothy Keith, while patrolling State Route 6, in the Town of Southeast, observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. Sergeant Keith initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon further investigation Sergeant Keith determined that the driver, 48 year old Fredy Munoz-Mendez was allegedly, intoxicated. Mr. Munoz-Mendez was placed under arrest and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for arrest processing. Mr. Munoz-Mendez was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor). Mr. Munoz-Mendez was processed and released on his own recognizance. Mr. Munoz-Mendez was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Southeast Justice Court.

On November 21, 2018, at about 9:00 pm, Deputy Matthew Shelters, while on a STOP DWI Crackdown Enforcement Patrol Detail, observed a vehicle commit traffic violations, in the area of Pudding Street and the Taconic State Parkway. Deputy Shelters also observed the vehicle travel at a high rate of speed and then bounce off of a curb, located on the right-side of the roadway, and slam into the center guard-rail. Deputy Shelters made contact with the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle. Upon further investigation Sergeant Keith determined that the driver, 21 year old Luis R. Alonzo Santos, who was not injured in the crash, was allegedly, intoxicated. Deputy Shelters attempted to place Mr. Alonzo-Santos under arrest to which Mr. Alonzo-Santos resisted arrest. Mr. Alonzo-Santos was eventually placed into custody and transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for arrest processing. While at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, Mr. Alonzo-Santos provided Deputy Shelters with a false name. Mr. Alonzo-Santos was processed and charged with Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor), Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor), Driving while having a BAC in excess of .08 (Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor), False Personation (Class B Misdemeanor), along with other Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations. Mr. Alonzo-Santos was arraigned by the Honorable Justice Louis Dicarlo, of the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court. Justice Dicarlo remanded Mr. Alonzo-Santos to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $3,500.00 cash-bail/ $7,000.00 bail-bond. Mr. Alonzo-Santos posted bail and is due back in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court.
