SENATOR MURPHY ANNOUNCES CHIPS FUNDING PAWLING TO RECEIVE MORE THAN $134K TO REPAIR ROADS

Pawling, NY – Potholes seem to worsen each year under the duress of bad winter weather while municipalities struggle to fund road resurfacing and repaving projects. The Consolidated Local Streets and Highway Program (CHIPS) is a State program that provides funding for such initiatives, and it saw a big increase in this year’s State budget.

State Senator Terrence Murphy joined David Kelly, Supervisor Pawling to highlight the $134,643 in funding for Pawling included in the 2015-16 state budget. The number is part of $488 million in CHIPS funding to support local roads and bridges, which is $50 million more than originally proposed by the Governor.

“Coming from a local government background myself, I understand the need to provide relief to our local governments,” Murphy said. “I’m proud to partner with Supervisor Kelly to work together to support our ailing infrastructure. Local roads matter.”

“After the devastating winter we have had these funds are crucial toward repairing and maintaining safe roads in our town,” Kelly said. “I would like to thank Senator Murphy for his hard work on behalf of Pawling residents and look forward to our continued work together as we improve the safety of our roadways.”

In addition to the CHIPS money, $1 billion in funding was allocated by the Senate to repair bridges across the state, an increase of $250 million over what was proposed. The money came from last year’s land fall legal settlements, including BNP Paribas.
