Joint Agency Sobriety Checkpoint Town of East Fishkill

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, East Fishkill Police Department and the New York State Police conducted a joint agency sobriety checkpoint, which resulted in eight arrests three of which were impaired driving arrests.
The checkpoint was conducted on State Route 52 in East Fishkill between the hours of 4 pm & 9 pm with a total of 1,790 vehicles passing through the checkpoint. The detail included assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.

This detail was funded by the NYS Governors Traffic Safety Committee which awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program funding to participate in a Statewide Enhancement Grant Project for 2018. The STOP-DWI Program coordinates local activities with Law Enforcement and Probation partners. The objective is to enhance public safety and the visibility of the STOP-DWI Program activities through coordinated multi-agency impaired driving enforcement and compliance details targeting impaired driving offenders and violators. Grant project activities include multi-jurisdictional checkpoints and coordinated Ignition Interlock offender compliance.

According to Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson, “The multi-agency enforcement details funded through this Enhancement grant project allow our Law Enforcement partners to stand shoulder to shoulder and work together toward one single goal. There is an obvious shared commitment to public safety on the roadways, as there continues to be an alarming presence of drug-impaired drivers. Interestingly, a large majority of motorists passing through these enforcement details offer strong encouragement and thank the officers for their efforts.”

Below is a listing of arrestees and charges from the details as well as arrests by agency patrols.

Frederick Gottwald (20 yoa) of Fishkill, NY was charged with DWAI Drugs a misdemeanor and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana a violation.
