Accord man arrested after a vehicle crash

On November 4, 2018, at approximately 5:45 p.m. State Police Highland responded to a report of a Dodge Ram pickup traveling recklessly on State Route 32 in the town of Rosendale. The vehicle was previously involved in a pursuit with the Town of Rosendale Police Department. A trooper observed the vehicle at the intersection of State Route 213 and State Route 32 traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles in a no passing zone. The trooper followed the vehicle into the town of Gardiner where the pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety.

At approximately 6:05 p.m. State Police responded to a report of a white Dodge pickup crashed on State Route 44/55 in the town of Gardiner. The initial trooper responded to the scene and observed Michael B. Smith, age 32, of Accord, NY walking away from the crashed vehicle.

Michael Smith was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving (misdemeanor), Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree (felony), and Felony Driving While Intoxicated: Previous Conviction Within 10 Years. An investigation is ongoing.

He was arraigned in the Town of Esopus Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Esopus Court on November 5, 2018, at 5:30 p.m.
