Obituary, Spencer Charles Wedum

Spence was born in Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder, Colorado on July 21, 1989 to Kathryn Keller and William Wedum. He left this world on Friday, October 26, 2018 in a tragic accident when a third floor balcony partition gave way as he leaned his chair against it while attending a Halloween party near his home in Denver. Spence grew up in South Boulder and attended Bear Creek Elementary School and Southern Hills Middle School. He graduated from Maplebrook School in Amenia, New York in 2008 where he was president of his senior class and delivered the commencement address. As Nick Bottom/Pyramus, Spence stole the limelight at the senior class production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. He attended Denver Community College; Spence had lived in the Capital Hill neighborhood of Denver, Colorado for the last ten years and most recently worked at the King Soopers near his home on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Spence weighed over ten pounds when he was born and he never stopped being a big presence in the world. One of the most outgoing people you could ever hope to meet, he was a truly unforgettable character, kind, generous, forgiving and funny. Spence loved music, movies, animals, especially his beloved Goldendoodle Winnie, and the theater. Most of all, Spence loved his large family and was loved unconditionally in return.

He is survived by his parents, his sister Eleanor Keller Wedum, his grandmother, Shirley Keller, aunts and uncles Brian and Angie Keller, Joan and David Schrader, Andrew and Jodi Keller, John Wedum and Ann Diddlebock, his cousins Jake Schrader, Elise Banker, Nathan Charles Keller, Haley Keller, Benjamin Charles Keller, Kevin Keller, Hannah Keller, Drew Keller, Olivia Diddlebock, Katie Diddlebock, Kristine Wedum and Julia Keating, and his step-father, David Hatfield. He was preceded in death by grandfathers Dr. Charles Keller and Dr. Otis Wedum, grandmother Kaye Wedum and his aunt, Tana Wedum Bate. As evidence of his giant heart, Spence was a registered organ donor and would have been thrilled that he benefited multiple recipients. His ashes were interred in Green Mountain Cemetery in the family plot.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colorado on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00, followed by a reception in the Church Atrium. Donations in Spencer’s name can be made to Curious Theater, 1080 Acoma Street, Denver CO 80204 or Maplebrook School, 5142 Route 22, Amenia, New York 12501.
