PRESS RELEASE

On March 27, 2015 SP Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investgation commenced an investigation into allegations of inappropriate contact between a 15 year old female victim and a 60 year old man residing in the Town of Copake, NY.

The investigation conducted by the New York State Police, Columbia County Child Protective Services and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office led investigators to Montgomery County, NY.

Investigators determined the suspect, John C. Vansteenburgh, 60 of Craryville, NY and formerly of the Town of Canajoharie in Montgomery County had maintained an inappropriate relationship with a 15 year old female since September 2014. Information leading to the arrest stemmed from numerous witnesses from Columbia County and Montgomery County.

Vansteenburgh was arrested and charged with one count of Sex Abuse 3rd and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both misdemeanors.

He was arraigned in the Town of Copake Court in front of Judge Glen Schermerhorn and released on $400 bail to reappear in court on 4/23/15 at 5:00 pm.
