Five arrested for burglary in Canaan

PRESS RELEASE
Canaan, New York – On September 19, 2018, the New York State Police from the New Lebanon barracks and Livingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Nicholas R. Irwin, age 17, Jose Martinez, age 16, Vidall Velazquez, age 16, a 15-year-old juvenile, and a 14-year-old juvenile, all of Berkshire Farm Center, for Burglary in the 3rd degree, class D felony.

On September 10, 2018, Troopers responded to Berkshire Farm Center in Canaan for a report of a burglary.  An investigation revealed that in the early morning hours of September 9, 2018, five students at Berkshire Farm Center illegally entered an administrative building, and stole several items including cellular devices.

Irwin, Martinez, and Velazquez were arraigned before the town of Canaan Court and released back to the supervision of the Berkshire Farm Center.  Their next scheduled appearance before the Court was set for September 27, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.

The two juveniles were issued appearance tickets returnable to Columbia County Probation Department on October 2, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.
