Poughkeepsie man charged with felony drug possession

PRESS RELEASE

Wappinger, New York – On March 28, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks arrested Joseph Velardi, 36 years old, of Poughkeepsie, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, a Class D Felony, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs, a Misdemeanor.

Troopers stopped the vehicle Velardi was operating on New Hackensack Road for failing to maintain its lane of travel. Subsequent to an investigation, it was discovered that Velardi was in possession of cocaine and was impaired at the time of the stop.

A Drug Recognition Expert was utilized to confirm that Velardi was impaired by drugs.

Velardi was arraigned before the Village of Wappinger Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bail.
