Poughkeepsie man arrested for DWI after crashing into parked cars and residence

Poughkeepsie, New York – On August 31, 2018, the New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested Benjamin Cruz, age 26, of Poughkeepsie, for Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Ignition Interlock Device, a class A misdemeanor, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.

Troopers observed a white 2002 BMW northbound on State Route 9 in the town Poughkeepsie traveling in excess of the posted speed limit.  Troopers attempting to locate the vehicle observed the operator lose control of his vehicle, and strike several parked cars before crashing into a house on East Cedar Street.  The operator identified as Cruz was found to be under the influence of drugs and or alcohol without a required interlock device and was subsequently arrested.  An investigation also found approximately 12.5 grams of marijuana in the vehicle.

Cruz was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for minor injuries and issued the appropriate Uniform Traffic Tickets and an Appearance Ticket returnable to the town of Poughkeepsie Court on September 17, 2018, at 3:30 p.m.
