Karen Smythe, Together With Advocate Gary Greenberg, Pledges To Help Pass The Child Victims Act

(Poughkeepsie, NY)  Karen Smythe was today joined by Child Victims Act advocate Gary Greenberg, survivors, and local community residents as she pledged to fight for passage of this critical legislation. The Child Victims Act would help the survivors of this heinous crime pursue justice and hold the predators accountable. Current Senator Sue Serino has repeatedly opposed the Child Victims Act, despite it having overwhelming support among Hudson Valley families.

“It is shameful that Senator Serino and the Senate Republicans have blocked passage of the Child Victims Act,” Karen Smythe said. “This good bill will simply help the survivors of this terrible crime seek justice, and I cannot believe Sue Serino would oppose those efforts. Clearly, the only way to pass this legislation is to elect new leadership to the State Senate, and when I am a State Senator I will fight for it to be passed into law.”

Gary Greenberg, Founder of Protect NY Kids, said, “I am proud to endorse Karen Smythe for State Senator in the 41st district. Karen is a successful businesswoman and community activist will go to Albany and see to it that the Child Victims Act becomes law. Sue Serino and the Republican majority have obstructed justice for victims of child sexual abuse by not allowing any vote on the Senate floor. Karen Smythe will make sure victims get the justice and healing they need.”

Karen Smythe, together with advocate and survivor Gary Greenberg, additional survivors, and community leaders discussed the Child Victims Act and the fact that current Senator Sue Serino has repeatedly opposed this legislation. This bill has been passed by the State Assembly with wide bi-partisan support, but has been blocked in the State Senate by Sue Serino and her political bosses. By failing to pass the Child Victims Act into law, Senator Serino has been protecting predators and harming efforts by survivors to pursue justice.
