Early Morning Bird Walks with Miley Bull September 7, 12, 20 & 28. 8 a.m.
Fall migration is upon us! Many birds are moving from their breeding range to their wintering range. Some are flying non-stop, others fly at night. Learn about dropping-out, fall-outs, plumage changes, and flock behavior. Join us at Deer Pond Farm to learn which birds migrate, why and the factors that affect them.

Nature Sketching Sunday, September 9, 11 a.m.
Expand your enjoyment of the outdoors through nature journaling! Bring a journal or a sketchbook and join volunteer master naturalist Diane Nizlek at Deer Pond Farm for a few quick sketches, then one longer study. Learn how to record your observations, increase your knowledge, and create a memory of your experiences while on the trail. No art ability is necessary. Bring lunch or snack, water, a spiral sketchbook or journal, a few pencils and an eraser, and a willingness to experiment. Optional items: a lightweight folding chair or waterproof mat for sitting, colored pencils or markers. This is a family friendly program.

Photography Fun Sunday, September 9, 1 p.m.

Join avid wildlife photographers Brian Bennett, Sharon Cuartero and Rich Stone for a nature walk with a focus on bird photography. They will help you understand the capabilities and limitations of your camera. You will also learn the basics of f-stop, shutter speed, focus and ISO. All levels are welcome as we enjoy the trails of Deer Pond Farm that bring us through meadows and forest and around ponds.

Nature Hike with Jim Arrigoni Friday, September 21, 4:30 p.m.

Join Jim Arrigoni, conservation biologist, on a hike through the varied habitats of Deer Pond Farm. The focus will be on covering many trails (approximately 3 miles) at a good pace, although we will stop at points of natural history interest along the way. The route will be moderately strenuous with several hundred feet elevation changes.

Autumnal Equinox Tree Walk Saturday, September 22, 10 a.m.

Join Robert Judd, local arborist, at Deer Pond Farm on the first day of fall for a stroll to highlight what the change of seasons mean for our trees. As we talk about identifying trees, we’ll discuss how day length and temperature change affects them. We will also review how this summer’s weather has impacted the trees performance and note this year’s growth while looking for signs of fall.

For all programs: Dress for the weather. Inclement weather cancels. Bring binoculars, camera and a sense of adventure. Unless otherwise stated: free for members, $5.00 non-members, $10 family non-members.
