Putnam County Sheriff’s Office History

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has always been known for its commitment to highly trained deputies and investigators. Deputies Raymond Tucker (L) and Ronald Newbery (R), proudly display their certificates of training from the Institute of Applied Science in Scientific Crime Detection. Today we call this C.S.I., Forensics or I.D., the Crime Scene Unit, but this photo is from ca @1970. In 1985, then Investigator Ronald Newbery was responsible for developing a latent fingerprint on a coffee cup (after it had been washed by the suspect) at the scene of a homicide in the Town of Southeast. That print positively identified the suspect, placed the suspect at the scene of the crime and was instrumental in the arrest and prosecution of the suspect for rape and murder.
