MONROE, NY – A devastating early morning fire tore through a single-family home at 14 Fort Worth Place in South Blooming Grove on Friday, leaving 10 residents homeless, including eight children.
The blaze, which broke out around 5 a.m., quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire, gutting the interior of the raised ranch-style home located on a quiet residential street. Firefighters worked diligently to bring the flames under control, but the damage to the home was extensive.
Smoke Inhalation and Emergency Aid
According to first responders, three individuals suffered smoke inhalation during the incident. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Emergency crews from local fire departments responded swiftly, and the Red Cross was on-site shortly afterward to assist the displaced family. The organization provided immediate financial assistance for emergency shelter, food, and clothing to all 10 victims—two adults and eight children ranging in age from one to 16 years old.
In addition to basic needs, the Red Cross also distributed comfort kits, which included personal hygiene items, and offered health services to address the family’s immediate physical and emotional needs.
Investigation Underway
As of Friday evening, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials are working to determine how the blaze started and whether any foul play or electrical malfunction may have been involved. The house is currently uninhabitable, and the family will remain in temporary accommodations until long-term housing solutions are arranged.
