Local child wins Grand National Baton Twirling Championship

Madison Anderson, a resident of Hopewell Junction, NY, wins in South Bend, Indiana

 7/28/2018 Madison Anderson is 9 years old and a member of the non-for profit organization the Silver Starlites, coached by Allison Stuart, a traveling baton twirling team. Madi has been twirling since she was 3 years old and has traveled to South Bend 7 times. Madi most recently traveled to South Bend, IN where she competed against kids her age from around the country and won one of the biggest titles out there. Juvenile Grand National Twirling Champion!

The National Majorette Contest is a round robin that starts on Tuesday with all qualifying kids from around the country and then they cut it down to take the top 15, then another round where the Top 6 are chosen. On Saturday, the final 6 twirl in what is called “the Top 6.” Madi has made it 3 times to “Top 6” and this year, she won the entire division! It is a great accomplishment for her, and the community that she lives, as no one in this area has ever done this. “It is a dream come true,” Madi says, “all my hard work paid off.” Madi practices 365 days a year and spends 4 intensive weeks (10 hours a day) in the gym in the month of July. She loves the sport of baton twirling and can’t wait to share it with the world!
