Faso Votes for Appropriations Measure to Fund Environmental Projects
Washington D.C. – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today voted in support of H.R. 6147, the Fiscal Year 2019 Interior and Environment, and Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Bills. H.R. 6147 incorporates two appropriations bills into one package. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 217–199.
“This legislation provides needed funding to protect and rehabilitate our environment, support small businesses, and strengthen law enforcement efforts to combat the opioid abuse epidemic and protect our institutions from cybercrime,” said Faso. “This legislation contains funding for crucial programs that I advocated for throughout this process, including an increase in funding for the Delaware River Basin Restoration Program and an increase in National Park System funding to address a nationwide deferred maintenance backlog, including numerous projects in Upstate New York.”
This package includes the fifth and sixth appropriations bills to pass the House.
Rep. Faso voted against an amendment that would have prohibited funding from being used to implement the EPA Methane Pollution Standard rule. Additionally, he voted against an amendment that would have prohibited funding from being used to implement the EPA social cost of carbon rule. Both of these amendments ended up being approved and included in the bill.
Highlights of Faso Requests and Upstate Wins:
- The Delaware River Basin Restoration Program had its funding increased from Fiscal Year 2018.
- Rep. Faso sent a funding request to the Appropriations Committee advocating for an increase in funding.
- The National Park System will be receiving $2.5 billion, a nearly $50 million increase above Fiscal Year 2018 levels.
- The funding increase will facilitate progress in clearing the backlog of nearly $1 billion in maintenance backlog in New York State, including over $10 million at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site.
- Fully repeals the Waters of the USA Rule, which would hurt Upstate farmers.
