Bronx man arrested for counterfeit money following a traffic stop

PRESS RELEASE

Southeast, New York – On June 12, 2018, the New York State Police form the Brewster barracks arrested Anthony J. Smith, age 26, of Bronx, NY, for Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 1st degree, a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rddegree, a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, a class A misdemeanor, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd degree, an unclassified misdemeanor.

On June 12, 2018, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Troopers observed a 2018 Kia Optima traveling on Interstate 84 and conducted a vehicle and traffic stop for a vehicle and traffic law infraction.  An investigation determined Smith had three or more suspensions on his license and was in possession of three oxycodone pills.  Further investigation found Smith was in possession of $5,100 in counterfeit U.S. currency, and an illegal knife.

Smith was arraigned before the town of Patterson Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond.  Smith is next scheduled to appear before the Court on June 14, 2018, at 1:00 p.m.
