The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of James E. Eberlein

ARREST: Members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of James E. Eberlein, 34, of Kingston. Mr. Eberlein is charged with the felonies of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third and Fourth Degrees and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, the misdemeanors of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in the Third Degree, Driving While Intoxicated and Resisting Arrest, as well as the violation of Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and numerous vehicle and traffic infractions.

On May 19, 2018 at approximately 11:50 PM deputies stopped a vehicle on Broadway in the City of Kingston after the deputy recognized Mr. Eberlein driving and knew his license was revoked. Mr. Eberlein then pulled away from the stop and led deputies and others on a chase through the City of Kingston, Town of Ulster and Town of Saugerties. He eventually stopped in the Village of Saugerties and fled into a wooded area. He was soon apprehended by sheriff’s K9 Farrell and taken into custody. A search of the vehicle by sheriff’s K9 Talon yielded approximately ten grams of cocaine and approximately fifteen grams of marihuana.

Mr. Eberlein was treated for his injuries sustained while being apprehended by K9 Farrell and later arraigned in the Town of Marbletown Court, where he was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 secured bond, to reappear in the City of Kingston Court on a later date.
