Dave Clegg to Rep. John Faso: You bet I’m running on a platform of Medicare for all

(KINGSTON, NY) – Over the weekend Rep. John Faso stated that “it is remarkable, the things they (Democrats) are saying. Medicare for all is one of their arguments.” Faso, who voted to take health care away from 60,00 people in New York’s 19th Congressional District, has been the benefactor of tens of thousands of dollars in donations from the health care industry.

“You bet I’m running on a platform of Medicare for all,” Dave Clegg said on Monday. “Health care is a right, not a privilege. Right now we have a backward system where insurance providers, the pharmaceutical industry, and their executives are prioritizing their profit margins and stock dividends over a person’s health. I’ve spent 37 years in this district fighting for working people against this type of corporate greed, and I’m going to do the same thing in Washington to ensure we pass Medicare for all and get every person the coverage they deserve.”

While Clegg believes the Affordable Care Act has moved America’s health system forward, he knows it is not nearly enough to get every person the coverage they deserve. Right now, even with ACA subsidies, premiums continue to rise, deductibles are so high people refuse to go the doctor, and the price of medicine can often be the choice between staying healthy and paying the rent. Passing Medicare for all could save the health care system trillions of dollars while providing better coverage to 95% of the country at a fraction of the cost.

“Before being elected John Faso was a corporate lobbyist, and frankly he has been doing that same job as our Congressperson. He has taken tens of thousands of dollars from the health care industry and voted against the best interests of the people of this district – he even went so far as to try and take health care away from 60,000 people. How he can choose to put his donors’ well being ahead of that of a family just trying to get treatment for their sick child is beyond me.

“I’m going to Washington to fight for Medicare for all because I know by passing this legislation we can transform our country. Right now nearly half of all bankruptcies are due to health care costs — we can provide financial security, relieve health care costs for businesses, and have healthier and more productive citizens,” Clegg concluded.
