Washington man arrested for assaulting a child

Washington, New York – On April 16, 2018, the New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Michael P. Thorpe, age 37, of Washington, for Assault in the 2nd degree, a class D felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor.
On April 16, 2018, the New York State Police were contacted by School Officials regarding injuries sustained by a child outside of school. An investigation determined Thorpe assaulted a child less than 7-years-old.
Thorpe was arraigned before the town of Washington Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. Thorpe is next scheduled to appear before the court on April 24, 2018, at 5:00 p.m.
