Katie Reynolds of Pawling and Oswego Field Hockey Earns NFHCA Honors

OSWEGO, NY (03/29/2018)– GILBERT, Ariz. – The Oswego State field hockey team and Katie Reynolds of Pawling earned the Zag Field Hockey / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Team Award for the 2017 season, with senior Brianna Ciganek earning an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honor. The Lakers also had eight members named to the 2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.

Oswego earned a team GPA of 3.48 during the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year, with teams over a 3.0 qualifying for the honor. The Lakers were one of five SUNYAC teams to receive the honor, with Cortland, Geneseo, New Paltz and Oneonta also being recognized.

Student-athletes qualify as an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction by achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.90 through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Ciganek has won the award for three-straight years. The accounting major has received multiple academic awards throughout her career, including spots on the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and the SUNYAC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll as well.

Ciganek, along with seven teammates, were named to the National Academic Squad. Emily Brockwell, Joanna Christman, Monica Harvey, Andrea Kelly, Katie Reynolds, Kendra Walker and Lacey Woite also earned the honor. To qualify, an athlete must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Seniors Brockwell, Harvey and Kelly each were named to the National Academic Squad during all four of their years with the Lakers.
