PRESS RELEASE
On 02/27/18, State Police and The Town of Durham Police Department responded to a reported threat of school violence at The Cairo-Durham High School. It was reported that a 9th-grade student had indicated that some other students may be in danger and that the student was in possession of a bullet. The school was placed in lockdown and the student was taken into custody outside of the building by police. An investigation into the events resulted in the 15-year-old student being charged as a juvenile delinquent. Had he been an adult, the charge would have been Making a Terroristic Threat(a Class D felony). The student was issued a Family Court Appearance ticket and released to his parents. State Police, with the assistance of The Cairo-Durham School District Administration, are continuing the investigation into this matter.
