Bronx man arrested following bank fraud investigation

PRESS RELEASE

Putnam County, New York – On March 17, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Brewster barracks arrested Byron P. Kempson, age 29, of the Bronx, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Grand Larceny 4th Degree, both Felonies.

An investigation revealed that Kempson had cashed several counterfeit checks at the Tompkins Mahopac Bank branches located on Route 22 in the Town of Southeast and also on Route 6N in the Town of Carmel.

Kempson stole approximately $3,570 from the two banks by cashing the forged checks.

Kempson was arraigned at the Town of Southeast Court, where Judge Richard Vercollone remanded him to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 24, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Town of Carmel Court.
