Catherine Hoggle Indicted for the Murders of Missing Children Sarah and Jacob

BETHESDA, MD — After nearly a decade of uncertainty, Catherine Ashley Hoggle of Clarksburg has been indicted on two counts of murder in connection with the disappearance of her two children, Sarah and Jacob Hoggle, who vanished in September 2014. The announcement was made by the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office on Friday.

Long-Standing Mystery Gains New Legal Ground

Sarah was just 3 years old and Jacob was 2 when they were last seen in the company of their mother. Their father, Troy Turner, reported them missing in September 2014. Despite extensive efforts by Montgomery County Police and partnering agencies, the children remain missing, and their fate has remained a heartbreaking mystery.

Authorities have now taken a major legal step by formally charging Hoggle with murder following her recent release from psychiatric care.

Hoggle Arrested Following Psychiatric Discharge

Catherine Hoggle was arrested on August 1 in Kent County, Maryland, shortly after the state learned she had been discharged on July 23 from the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, a maximum-security psychiatric facility in Jessup where she had been held since 2015. She was reportedly suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of her initial arrest and had previously been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

Earlier charges of child neglect and interfering with a police investigation were dropped after she remained unfit for court proceedings. The new indictment signifies a shift in how prosecutors are handling the tragic case.

What’s Next in the Case

Hoggle is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville, and she is scheduled for a bond review hearing on August 4 at the Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Authorities emphasize that the case remains active and are continuing their investigation into the children’s disappearance. They urge anyone with information to come forward and contact Montgomery County Police or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

A Family Still Seeking Answers

For nearly nine years, the family of Sarah and Jacob Hoggle has waited for justice. Their father, Troy Turner, has remained vocal and persistent in demanding answers, organizing searches, and keeping public attention focused on the case.

While the indictment does not bring immediate closure, it represents a long-awaited step toward accountability.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Montgomery County Police Department or reach out anonymously through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

This case continues to unfold, and updates will be provided as new developments emerge.
