Driver And Relative Charged With DWI Following Crash On 9G

On Thursday, January 4th, 2018 at approximately 9:05 PM the Red Hook Police Department received a call reporting a truck versus telephone pole crash on 9G near the main entrance to Bard College in the Town of Red Hook. Upon investigation it was determined that a 2004 Nissan pick up truck driven by Rolando Lopez, 21 of Rhinebeck was southbound on 9G when he went off the roadway, struck a telephone pole and crashed over 100 feet down an embankment. Lopez, who was not injured in the crash was interviewed on scene and found to be intoxicated by alcohol and taken into custody. While on the scene, a relative of Lopez identified as Abraham Lopez -De La Cruz, 42 of Rhinebeck arrived to assist but was also found to be driving while intoxicated. He was also placed under arrest on scene and taken into custody. Both subjects were charged with misdemeanor DWI, processed and released to a third party with a future court date.

State Route 9G was closed for several hours while central Hudson repaired the pole and wires damaged in the crash. The Red Hook Police department was also assisted on scene by the Red Hook Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
