State Police investigate apparent suicide on the Dutchess County Rail Trail

Wappinger, New York – On March 16, 2015 at approximately 11:18 a.m., New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks responded to the Dutchess County Rail Trail for a report of a male lying on the trail, unresponsive.
Dutchess County 911 was contacted by Good Samaritans who located the man on the trail approximately 800 feet south of the Diddell Road trail head.
Uniformed members arrived on scene and discovered 55-year-old Thomas E. Maffei, of East Fishkill, New York, deceased. Preliminary investigation revealed that Maffei died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At this time, State Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
