Pleasant Valley woman charged with stealing family member’s identity

PRESS RELEASE

Dover, New York – On March 13, 2015, New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Dover Barracks arrested Crystal L. Dearstyne, 27 years old, of Pleasant Valley, New York, for Identity Theft 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony, Identity Theft 3rd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Petit Larceny, also a Class A Misdemeanor.

In February of 2015, Troopers from the Dover Plains barracks were dispatched to investigate an identity theft case. A detailed investigation revealed that Dearstyne opened several credit cards using a family member’s social security number. As a result, Dearstyne was able to benefit financially after making over $4,000 in fraudulent charges.

Dearstyne was arraigned before the Town of Dover Justice Court. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to return to the Town of Dover Court on April 13, 2015.
