The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program Invites the Public to Visit the Brine Garden in Pawling on October 15
GARRISON, NY: On Sunday, October 15th, visit the private garden of Duncan and Julia Brine in Pawling, open to the public through the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $7 per person, benefitting the Garden Conservancy and Friends of the Great Swamp; children 12 and under are free. At The Brine Garden, 21 Bluebird Inn Road, Pawling, an emphasis on native plants highlights this naturalistic, six-acre garden and arboretum, which connects ecologically and horticulturally diverse areas. The thirty-three-year-old garden has a maturing plant collection including an allée of bald cypress trees, groups of fringe trees, and more than twenty viburnums (native and non-native), some with showy berries. Several imposing hedges of giant miscanthus grasses structure the areas and relate to the phragmites of this formerly agrarian landscape. You will receive a property map and a plant list which indicates U.S. and Dutchess County natives.
