Brewster man found guilty of rape and sexual assault

CARMEL, N.Y. – Julio Soto, 37, was convicted after a six-day trial in Putnam County Supreme Court last week.

Soto who remains in custody at the Putnam County Jail will go before Judge James Reitz on April 21 for sentencing. Soto faces up to 50 years in prison along with a lifetime sex-offender status.

Soto was arrested in January 2013 in Brewster after his victim reported the attacks to a counselor that occurred in Brewster. Soto was then charged with first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sex act, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sex act and forcible touching.

The victim was accompanied to the trial each day by advocates from the Women’s Resource Center of Mahopac, where she continues to receive counseling.
