Obituary, George Robert Boyd

 

MILTON – George Robert Boyd, 101, a resident of Milton and previously of Wappingers Falls and Great Sacandaga Lake, died on September 3, 2017 at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Highland.

Born on July 28, 1916 in Kent, CT, George was the son of Robert R. Boyd Jr. and Margaret Park Boyd. George was the youngest of 4 siblings. He spent most of his childhood and young adulthood in Ancram, NY. George’s high school graduation took place in Pine Plains. After graduation, George worked in Ancram at a creamery with his father.

After a few years of local work George moved to Poughkeepsie and secured a job with IBM. George took a leave of absence to serve in the Air Force during World War II, and then returned to IBM until his retirement in 1972.

George married Adele M. Shinn in Walton on September 28, 1946. She predeceased him at the age of 101 on December 28, 2016 after 70 years of marriage. George and Adele built their home in Wappingers Falls where they worked and raised their family. Following his retirement, they moved to their retirement home that George and Adele constructed on the Great Sacandaga Lake. George and Adele wintered in Bonita Springs, FL, making the seasonal journey for over 30 years. They moved to William and Cynthia’s home in Milton, NY at the age of 90 to be with family.

George is survived by his sons, Robert Boyd of Ghent, and William Boyd and his wife Cynthia of Milton; his grandsons, Michael Boyd and his wife Vanessa of Clearwater, FL and Todd Boyd and his wife Tammi of Milton; and his 5 great-grandchildren, Breanna, Andrew, Emily, Tyler and Hailey.
