PORTLAND, Ore. — Beloved California-based burger chain In-N-Out is officially moving forward with its long-anticipated plans to open its first location in the Portland area, with construction set to begin in Beaverton.
According to the Portland Business Journal, the company has submitted building and demolition permit applications for a site at 10565 S.W. Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. The plans call for a 3,886-square-foot restaurant featuring a drive-thru lane and outdoor seating, to be built on a half-acre lot.
Making Room for the Burger Icon
To make way for the new location, In-N-Out filed for the demolition of two existing buildings:
-
A 6,000-square-foot building that formerly housed a Mexican restaurant
-
A 3,500-square-foot building that was home to a Hawaiian restaurant
The demolition permits were filed in late December, signaling that site preparation is well underway.
Expanding Across the Region
Beaverton is just the beginning. In-N-Out has several other projects in motion across the Portland metro area:
-
A land-use application has been on file for a Hillsboro site for several years
-
The company spent $3.3 million on a former Village Inn restaurant in Tualatin
-
It has also purchased land in Vancouver, Washington
These moves are part of In-N-Out’s gradual expansion into the Pacific Northwest, as demand for its iconic burgers and shakes continues to grow beyond California and other Western states.
What’s Next?
In-N-Out has not yet announced a timeline for opening the Beaverton location, but with permitting and demolition underway, the restaurant could open sometime in 2026, depending on construction progress and local approvals.
Once open, the Beaverton restaurant is expected to draw significant crowds, similar to other first-time openings in new markets.
Stay tuned for updates as construction progresses and In-N-Out officially brings its famous Double-Doubles and Animal-Style fries to the Portland area for the very first time.
