Construction Worker Fatally Struck by Excavator in Beacon

BEACON, N.Y. — A tragic construction accident claimed the life of a 61-year-old Goshen man on Monday morning in Beacon. Amatio Lombardi was working on a City of Beacon infrastructure improvement project along Fishkill Avenue (Route 52) when he was fatally struck by an excavator around 11 a.m., according to local authorities.

The incident occurred near the Hedgewood Assisted Living Facility. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Lombardi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fishkill Avenue was shut down in both directions between Dallis Place and Conklin Avenue for several hours as investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the equipment or operator involved.

City officials expressed deep sorrow following the incident. “Our hearts go out to the Lombardi family during this incredibly difficult time,” said Mayor Lee Kyriacou in a public statement. “Amatio’s service to our city will not be forgotten.”

In a gesture of respect, Mayor Kyriacou has ordered all city flags to be flown at half-staff for the remainder of the week in Lombardi’s honor.

The investigation remains ongoing.
